Once the home to the author and former Advisor to Margaret Thatcher, the Right Honourable Lord Michael Dobbs, the current owners purchased the property in March 2018 and have spent the last three years renovating and restoring the property.
In May 2018 Scaffolding was erected around the whole property. A temporary roof and a full wrap ensured the inside of the property would remain dry whilst works were carried out.
New Slate Roof Tiles, guttering and downpipes, the Bath stone and brickwork was repaired, repointed and cleaned, all 28 Sash windows were refurbished and all 19 stained glass windows were removed, releaded and restored.
Having completed the outside of the property towards the end of 2018, it was then time for work to start inside the property. From the top floor to the basement, careful planning and consideration was given to the each and every room. Work included the renovation of four original Victorian Fireplaces, the addition of two Log burners in the Music Room and Lounge, replacing modern radiators with original Cast Iron radiators, renovating and oiling original floorboards, painting and decorating.
Having finished all the rooms on the Ground, first and second floors by the end of 2019, the owners embarked on their last leg of the renovation of Westcross House, the basement and rear Garden. But it was to be no ordinary basement or back garden. The basement would include an open plan kitchen/dining room, a gym, a utility room, a Wine Cellar and Log Store.
RHS Gold Medal Winning Landscape Architects and Garden Designers Victoria and Joe Wade were instructed to come up with a contemporary design for the garden incorporating Red Cedar, a frameless Glass balustrade boundary wall, a green roof and wall, Porcelain Tiles and a wood fired Swedish Hot Tub.
